**The Big Five Plus Chimpanzees: Explore Kenya’s Hidden Conservation Gem**
Embark on a full-day safari starting from your Nairobi hotel, private residence, or the airport. We will pick you up at 5:00 AM in a comfortable pop-top safari jeep.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy, just a few hours from Nairobi, offers the chance to see all of the Big Five—lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard, and rhino. It’s also home to the highest density of predators in Kenya, giving you a great chance to spot lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and the rare African wild dog. Plus, you are guaranteed to see rhinos and chimpanzees in the famous sanctuaries within this 365 square kilometer reserve.
Originally a cattle ranch, Ol Pejeta is now a protected space for rare black and white rhinos, rescued chimpanzees, and other unique wildlife like aardvarks and bat-eared foxes.
We will pick you up at your hotel or chosen location at 5:00 AM to begin our exciting day. On the way to Ol Pejeta, we’ll point out the traditional coffee and tea plantations of Kenya. If the weather allows, you will also enjoy views of Mt. Kenya and its snow-capped summit.
The drive is relatively short, taking only 3 to 4 hours. Ol Pejeta is the closest place to Nairobi where you can see all of Africa’s Big Five. The reserve is home to six prides of lions, totaling nearly 80 lions, as well as about 30 cheetahs.
Along the way, you will have opportunities to spot a variety of typical East African wildlife, including giraffes, vervet monkeys, baboons, hippos, impalas, gazelles, dik-diks, and zebras.
Ol Pejeta is famous for its commitment to protecting endangered wildlife. The sanctuary is home to 100 black rhinos, the largest population in East Africa, as well as the last two northern white rhinos in the world.
Visitors can tour the enclosure twice daily at 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. (Note: visits to the northern white rhinos are not available on day trips.)
This is the only place in Kenya where you can see rescued and rehabilitated chimpanzees living in large natural enclosures.
The sanctuary also features unique wildlife, such as tree hyraxes, white-tailed mongooses, and elands, all set against the backdrop of Mt. Kenya. Optionally, you can visit a local Masai village to experience their culture, which can be arranged by your guide for an extra fee.
Your one-day tour includes breakfast and lunch, with transportation provided in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser Jeep guided by an experienced driver.
